School allows Grayson Bruce to carry MLP backpack again
With unified support from Bronies, Glenn Beck and the national media Candler Elementary School in Buncombe County, North Carolina has agreed to let Grayson Bruce carried his My Little Pony backpack in school again.
Grayon’s mother, Noreen Bruce, meet with Buncombe school district officials this past Thursday to discuss what has become a national news story. This comes from a report from The Asheville Citizen-Times this past weekend.
This comes from an incident that occurred with Grayson Bruce earlier last week after school officials asked Bruce not to carry his My Little Pony backpack to school anymore after a series of bullying occurred between Bruce and some of his schoolmates. The school suggested to the Bruce Family that the fifth-grade Grayson not carry his MLP satchel to school as it was a “trigger for bullying”.
According to The Bruce Family, kids at Buncombe had been picking on the fifth grader with a rash of insults and physical attacks because he was a boy and My Little Pony was a franchise for girls.
In The Asheville Citizen-Times, Bruce’s mother Noreen reported that the meeting between herself and Buncombe school officials was ” a real heart-to-heart talk.” Mrs. Bruce further went on to relate that “The school is considering all options for getting Grayson back into school with his My Little Pony backpack.”
In the wake of this latest rash of MLP bullying, The Bruce Family will also assist in organizing a Parent Advisory Council on bullying in schools.
Buncombe school officials released a statement:
“We have appreciated the opportunity to meet with the Bruce family and discuss the issues,” the statement said. “We sincerely regret that the issue of being told to leave the bookbag at home was perceived as blaming Grayson. While that was not the intent, the perception became reality. We support Grayson bringing the bookbag to school.”
