5 Years Later: A Look Back

maxresdefault

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has just put its 5th season under its belt. The first prolific episode aired late in 2010. Five years and 117 episodes later, as we look into the eyes of another long hiatus, it’s time to look back at all that’s happened in this series’ lifespan.

So much has come about, not only in the course of the show, but in the community and related media. A lot of major changes took place simply in the television series though:

Back in October 2010 Twilight Sparkle first arrived in Ponyville and her adventures in the magic of friendship first started. A lot has changed since then. Sixty-four episodes and about 2 and a half years later she became a princess and an alicorn, presiding over the populous of Equestria as the princess of friendship.

In January 2011, Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle formed the Cutie Mark Crusaders during the episode “Call of the Cutie.” Four years later in October, they finally found out their special talents with the help of their former nemesis, Diamond Tiara.

Now the series which has changed so much, but still retains the fun and charm it originally had, has spawned toy lines, a fully fledged comic book series with several spin offs, a series of chapter books, and tons of fan work.

From Mane6, the former “Fighting is Magic” still lives in the form of “Them’s Fightin’ Herds” with the input of the show’s original creator, Lauren Faust. The project went through its Indiegogo campaign, advertising some beautiful graphic work and awesome music, passing with flying colors, and is being made right now.

A fan favorite original character, “Fluffle Puff” (who sadly, is currently on a hiatus), has spread around the Internet, entertaining fans and parodying lots of media.

“Midnight Mares,” a pet project from creator C. Allan Gann, inspired by Friendship is magic, is in the works here.

Tons of conventions for fans to have fun and discuss one of their favorite shows have sprung up all over the world. There’s bound to be one near almost any fan from Australia to The United Kingdom to California.

This series has done so much for so many fans for the last 5 years. Here’s hoping it doesn’t just stop at 5 more years.
